AMORE II: Species monitoring of beetles and fungi in spruce and fir-spruce natural forest reserves

This sub-project (continuation of the AMORE I project in beech forests) is part of a joint HAFL-WSL project that conducts and analyses standardised surveys of xylobiont species. These functional groups represent an essential part of forest biodiversity, including many endangered species. The conservation of these groups and the promotion of natural processes are the main functions of natural forest reserves. Xylobiont species are ecological indicators of the naturalness of forest ecosystems and are therefore ideally suited to measure the effectiveness of natural forest reserves in comparison to managed forests. In this project, a species inventory of xylobiont beetles and fungi in spruce and fir-spruce natural forest reserves is carried out in comparison to managed stands and control variables of diversity are identified. This project allows statements to be made on the effect of the protection of the reserves and is the basis for long-term monitoring.
