Wie wirkt sich die Klimaerwärmung auf Pflanzen aus - und damit auf die für den Menschen wichtigen Funktionen und Leistungen von Wäldern? Diese Frage treibt mich als Ökophysiologin schon während meiner ganzen wissenschaftlichen Karriere um.
In meinem Doktorat an der Lorraine Universität und dem INRAE Grand Est-Colmar in Frankreich habe ich erkundet, wie die Baumartenvielfalt den Wasser- und Kohlenstoffhaushalt von Bäumen beeinflusst. Dabei konzentrierte ich mich im Besonderen auf die Widerstandskraft der Pflanzen gegen Extremereignisse. In meinem PostDoc am Los Alamos National Laboratory in den USA untersuchte ich, wie sich Wälder an immer stärkere Dürrephasen bei höheren Temperaturen anpassen.
Seit 2018 forsche ich an der WSL, unterstützt durch das Nationalfonds-Förderprogramm «Ambizione». Ich untersuche, wie Bäume auf ein wärmeres und trockeneres Klima reagieren und wie die Artenzusammensetzung die negativen Einflüsse abfedern könnte.
Ich leite die Forschungsgruppe Funktionale Pflanzenökologie sowie - ab März 2020 - den WSL-Standort Lausanne, oder "PERL" an der EPFL.
