Since there is no widely applicable and objective way to measure avalanche size or to determine the outlines of an avalanche, we have all estimated them. Knowing about the consistency of judgements coming from different people is essential, since errors will impact applications and machine learning models relying on this kind of data. In three user studies we have investigated the reliability by comparing avalanche size estimates, the mappings of avalanches from oblique photographs and those visible in remotely sensed imagery from different participants. We will present the results and discuss how our findings influence the use of data acquired in those ways.
