I am a Scientist in the office of the Director at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL). I support the Director in the definition of the strategic orientation of the Institute and in the coordination of overarching science projects at WSL.
Before joining WSL in January 2016, I held the position of Director of Science and Head of the IPCC WGI Technical Support Unit (TSU) at the University of Bern, Switzerland, from 2009 to 2015. From 2007 to 2009, I worked as Research Associate in the Environmental Physics group (UP) at the Institute of Biogeochemistry and Pollutant Dynamics (IBP), Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zürich (ETH Zürich), Switzerland, where I continue to be Affiliated Scientist/Lecturer.
Education
Dipl. Geograph, University of Basel, 1996
Dr. phil. nat., University of Bern, 2001
Resarch Interests
I'm interested in the global carbon cycle and its links to climate and climate change. While I am no longer actively pursuing my own research, I still continue to be involved in a number of research activities. My research focused on the contemporary and future carbon cycle from regional to global scales, in particular the role of on the ocean component of the Earth System, its role in nutrient and carbon cycling and ultimately climate. As research tools, I used a hierarchy of numerical physical-biogeochemical models.
