After Alpine Ice
2026 - 2029
FinanzierungAn Alpine region without glaciers threatens our "Alpine landscape picture". Indeed, the Alpine Arc is emerging as one of the most vulnerable environments to climate change having a direct impact on the mass and distribution of Alpine glaciers and ecology. Most Alpine glaciers are in protected areas (PAs), whose core mission is to protect natural habitats & species: this change poses unprecedented ecological and management challenges. This project elaborates new strategies & concrete conservation measures for new ice-free areas and emerging new ecosystems. On the other hand, it develops an information & communication system aimed at protecting visitors and local populations. Strategies & measures will be tested in Alpine PAs of different levels of protection and different stages of the evolution of glacier retreat. Almost all Alpine countries are concerned - only common solutions and strategies will be efficient.
