Vegetation height model NFI
In the framework of the Swiss National Forest Inventory (NFI) a national vegetation height model was calculated for Switzerland and is being updated on a regular basis. The ADS80 aerial images, which were routinely gathered by the Federal Office of Topography (swisstopo), contain information about the height of forests. We used these stereo aerial images to first calculate a digital surface model (DSM) with a very high resolution (1x1m). The DSM was normalized using a digital terrain model (DTM) and building were masked out to produce a vegetation height model (VHM).
