Current Research Activities

  • Application of state-of-the-art sensor technologies to rockfall and avalanche problems under realistic conditions.
  • Transfer of findings to the simulation software RAMMS::ROCKFALL and RAMMS::AVALANCHE
  • Development and improvement of a useful tool for engineers working in hazard zone mapping and planning mitigation measures

Impressions of a rockfall experiment at our test site "Chant Sura" at the Flüelapass, Switzerland. The trajectories and rock-ground-interactions of reinforced concrete blocks in equant and wheel shapes with masses ranging from 200 kg to 2670 kg are repetitevly released. In-situ sensors and high-resolution videogrammetry track the rocks and allow for a full trajectory reconstruction. The gathered data are used to improve, refine and calibrate the rockfall simulation module RAMMS::ROCKFALL
