The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) has founded a project "Unifying metamorphism, heat and mechanics for microstructure-based snow modeling". The project consists of two sub-projects and investigates microstructural processes in view of a unified description of physical properties at the macro-scale.
In the present sub-project, the goal is to advance the understanding of the microstructure-based metamorphism. We generate an ensemble of numerical metamorphism experiments to contrast them with the experimental tomography metamorphism experiments. In particular, the evolution of the ice-air interface, where reactions and phase changes can take place, is further investigated.
