Information about the comparative snow depth map

Main menu

During wintertime this map is normally published on Thursdays at around 9.30 am, but it appears more frequently if necessary. It compares the current snow depth with the long-term mean for the relevant date. It is based on manual SLF measuring stations with measurement series spanning at least 10 consecutive years. Most of the measuring sites are situated between 1000 and 2000 m, so that the map applies only to intermediate altitude zones.

The following classification is used:

  • less than 60% well below average
  • 60 to 90% below average
  • 90 to 110% average
  • 110 to 140% above average
  • more than 140% well above average
