The maps of the comparative snow depth are published at about 8:30. The current snow depth is shown in comparison with the long-term mean value on this calendar day. This is based on measurements from manual measuring sites and automatic measuring stations from SLF and MeteoSwiss, which were collected between approximately 7 am and 8 am. Data transmitted late are continuously integrated into the maps. In principle, data from the 30-year reference period 1991 to 2020 are used to calculate the mean value. Since the measurement series of the automatic stations do not go back that far, all automatically collected data series that have existed at least since winter 2001/2002 are taken into account.

The grid in the background is calculated with a distance-dependent interpolation of the values at the stations. This means that there may be deviations between the value at the station and the grid in the background. Especially values at the upper or lower end of the displayed height band may show larger deviations.

The product exists in 2 variants:

Comparative snow depth 1500 m: For the calculation of the grid in the background only values are taken into account that lie within the altitude band between 1000 m and 2000 m. The interpolated grid values are used for the calculation of the snow depth. The interpolated grid values are shown in the Jura and the Alps. Regions that are too low or where no measurement series are available are not coloured.
Only station values that lie in the altitude band described above are shown.
The product is published from 15 November to 10 April.

Comparative snow depth 2500 m:  For the calculation of the grid in the background only values are considered that lie within the altitude band between 2000 m and 3000 m. The interpolated grid values are shown in the Alps. Regions that are too low or where no measurement series are available are not coloured.
Only station values that lie in the altitude band described above are shown.
The product is published from 1 November to 15 June.

The measured values are uncontrolled. It is possible that incorrect values are displayed.
