Oral/poster guidelines

Information for oral presentations

The International Symposium on Snow is coming closer and we are working hard to make sure that the upcoming conference will be a great success for everybody. During the symposium we will have sixty-five oral presentations. To ensure that the sessions proceed in a timely fashion we kindly ask each presenter to restrict the length of their presentation to no more than 12 minutes.

Schedule and talk duration

Please consult the online programme to check for the exact time.

The duration of your oral presentation is 15 minutes and includes 3 minutes for questions and discussion and for change-over to the next speaker (i.e. a 15-minute talk should be 12 minutes of presentation + 3 minutes of discussion).

The presentation will all take place in the Aspen plenary hall at the Davos congress centre.

Presentation format

Please prepare your presentation in either PowerPoint or PDF format, preferably for 16:9 projection.

Submit presentations

You can either upload your presentation until 24 hours before your session (instructions will follow) or bring it on a USB stick to the plenary hall at least 30 minutes before your session starts.

Information for poster presentations

During the symposium, we will have two poster sessions (Monday and Tuesday afternoons). Before the poster sessions, we will have poster introduction sessions. During the poster sessions, we ask the authors to be at their posters to discuss their work. Posters will be on display for the entire week of the symposium.

Poster oral introduction

Each presenting author will have the chance to inform the audience about their work by giving a poster introduction (2 minutes) in the plenary hall. For the introduction presentations, we will prepare a slide with the title and the authors of each poster. The main message can be presented in one slide provided by the presenting author. Please upload this single slide by 22 September at the latest (acceptable formats: PowerPoint, pdf or an image). If we do not receive a slide by this date, we will assume that you are fine with just our introduction slide.

Poster format

The poster format is A0 (841 mm wide x 1189 mm high) portrait format. Larger posters or posters in landscape format cannot be mounted.

Printing your poster

We strongly recommend you to print your poster prior to your arrival in Davos. Alternatively, there is the possibility to print posters at Silberroth in Davos. The printing of the posters can only be guaranteed if the PDF (in original size) is sent by email to info(at)silberroth.ch by Wednesday evening 21 September. The posters will be available from Friday noon, 23 September, 13:30 - 16:00 or on Monday morning, 26 September, 8:00 - 12:00 and must be collected by yourself at Silberroth (a 10-minute walk from the Conference Centre). The price per poster is CHF 40.00 and is to be paid directly in cash or by credit card.

Mounting your poster

You can attach your poster either on Sunday during the icebreaker reception at 17:00 or on Monday morning (doors open at 07:30). Posters must be put up well before the first poster session on Monday.

Upon checking-in at the reception desk in the conference center, you will receive a folder, which also contains a floor plan with the sequential poster board numbers so that you can find your poster board. We will also give you Scotch Power Strips to mount your poster; please do not use nails, pins or other material to attach your poster to the poster boards.

Posters will be on display for the entire week of the symposium. The symposium participants will, therefore, have ample opportunity to enjoy the posters and interact with the poster authors.

Please be sure to be available near your poster during the time of your poster session.

All posters need to be taken down by the author after the symposium (at latest on Friday 12:00). Posters that were not collected by the author will be removed.
