In this interdisciplinary project research teams from WSL (Mountain Hydrology and Torrents), Univ. Bern (Hydrology), ETH Zürich (Atmosphere and Climate, VAW Glaciology, Centre for Energy Policy and Economics) and Univ. Zürich (Physical Geography) investigate the effect of a changing climate on the Swiss Hydropower production.
Climate change and winter tourism: Ecological and economic effects of artificial snow
How many hectares of ski pistes are covered with artificial snow in the Alps? How much water do modern snow-making facilities need? How important is snow reliability for ski resorts? How does the ski piste preparation affect the biodiversity and soil stability?
Snowcover in a Changing Climate
The aim of this project is to investigate past and future developments of the temporal variability, trends and possible seasonal shifts of parameters like snow fall, snow depth and total snow water equivalent in different altitude zones. |
